This depending on whether it is a purely entertaining novel, or one that is written with some aesthetic technique or value with an effect beyond mere entertainment. It is worth noting that the contemporary British novelist Anthony Burgess has said writing novels should entertain the novelist more than any one during the composition stage. This makes sense to me and I can apply the same maxim to writing scholarly papers for ac ademic merit. When enjoyment in the process of creation exists, then perhaps this spirit is transferred to the reception by the art-patron. I will take for granted that the serious fiction-writer has a harder time getting money for his or her writing than the popular novelist, who writes perhaps with a formula or with simple, easy-to-understand sentence structure. My example for this (the post-modern era), Danielle Steele. I have never read a book by Ms. Steele, and I do not think I ever will. Danielle Steele will probably never win a Nobel prize for literature. She will not be immortalized by her writing like Shakespeare. In his book Anna of the Five Towns, I find none of these features to be prominent, besides perhaps Anna's generous inheritance, and I did not consider this book to be of any literary value whatsoever; to me it was not entertaining or enlightening. So without looking to be an "average reader," by his terms, I must have fallen into the pit of slipshod literacy? Bennett makes a distinction between the minority and the majority of the reading public. The minority, in his eyes the more important, and thus the more apt to read more seriously, well-written books, are the more artistic and scholarly, and live in a constant state of conflict with the majority. The majority, which buys books and enjoys them, have to defend their favorite reading "with what skill they can muster, making up in brute force what they lack in adroitness." Bennett is generally saying the members of this majority are a big ball of sensory perception, if you have the right stuff to feed them, they'll fork over the dough for what you have. He goes on to describe what this food is, which he has ostensibly ascertained the consistency through his own experiences reading those novels that were popular and those that were not. While thereââ¬â¢s nothing wrong with hand-crafting your resume in Microsoft Word (or your word processor of choice), there are plenty of online tools that can save you lots of time by formatting your resume in seconds. Plus, if youââ¬â¢re still struggling with exactly what to put on your resume in the first place ââ¬â thereââ¬â¢s lots of great advice out there. Before we get into the list of great tools and resources, there are a couple of crucial things to keep in mind: Whatever tools you use, employers will expect a resume that conforms to a standard format. There are some nifty tools out there that let you create a resume that looks like, say, an infographic: unless youââ¬â¢re very certain thatââ¬â¢ll go down well with your potential employer, stick to something a little more conventional. Tools can be hugely helpful but they can only do so much. If there are major issues with your resume (like a huge unexplained gap in your work history, or a total mismatch between your listed skills and what an employer wants), youââ¬â¢ll want to fix those problems before trying to format your resume beautifully. Going through some resume samples can be really helpful, because it gives you a good feel for what potential employers will expect. There are plenty of sites out there offering sample resumes, but Resume Genius is a particularly easy-to-use one, with samples categorised by industry, and with related samples like cover letters, plus additional tips. You can click to download a sample as a Microsoft Word document without having to sign up or put in your email address. Tip: Donââ¬â¢t assume that the wording or layout of a sample is perfect (or that itââ¬â¢s perfect for the role you have in mind): it wonââ¬â¢t necessarily be appropriate to copy a particular phrase that a sample resume or cover letter uses, for instance. Itââ¬â¢s easy to end up agonising over things on your resume that donââ¬â¢t really matter ââ¬â or giving too much importance to areas that employers simply arenââ¬â¢t that interested in (like your educational history). Tip: Although published by a UK newspaper, the author of the piece (Ambra Benjamin) is American, so the advice here applies fairly well on either side of the Atlantic. #4: 43 Resume Tips That Will Help You Get Hired (free), The Muse This is another single article, but one thatââ¬â¢s packed with practical tips and lots of links to further information, from the big picture (focusing on recent, relevant jobs) to the little details (avoiding using the same words repeatedly). Note that the article is aimed at US readers, so if youââ¬â¢re in a different country, you may find that some of the advice doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily apply ââ¬â and even if you are in the US, donââ¬â¢t feel that you have to follow every single point slavishly. Give this a skim-read when youââ¬â¢re first putting together your resume; you can then go through it point by point as you edit and polish your resume, following the links to further information if thereââ¬â¢s a particular area where you need extra help or want more details. Since discipline is a major issue that appears to occur in schools due to special education students being included into regular education classrooms. Students tend to act out because they are not on the same level as their non-disable peers and feel as though they are not able to complete the same course work and receive a passing grade therefore they begin to disrupt the class instead of asking for help when it is needed. I can understand the student frustration when they are not able to answer questions or other students make fun of them because they could not get the correct answer. These students are in a mainstream classroom with their peers but are not on the same reading level as them and it is difficult for them to participate in class and feel as if they are up to part (T. Davis, personal communication, December 16, 2013). Ms. James stated that discipline issues that occur with special needs students in her school are students that are emotionally disturbed. These students disrespect their authority figures, fight other students and it even goes so far as them threatening to harm teachers and other students (S.James, personal communication, December 18, 2013). Doe, the court ruled that students with disabilities can not be excluded from school for any misbehavior that is disability related but the educational service could cease if the misbehavior is not related to the disability (wrightlaw, 2011). We discussed the challenges that administrators and teachers face related to special education students. According to Mrs. Davis a special need student has a plan of action in place which drives his/her instructions, if special need students commit serious wrongdoings which is not a manifestation of his disability then he/she will be reprimanded; the same as a regular education student (Ms. Davis, 2013). Doe v. Koger (1979) court case influence the school district because the court implied that students with disabilities could be expelled when there was no relationship between their misconduct and their disabilities, a perspective that became known as the manifestation of the disability doctrine (Osborne, 2007). Ms.James stated that this is a big challenge for administrators and teachers because special needs students do not receive the same disciplinary actions as regular students although they committed the same misconduct. It is unfair that their learning and others students learning is being disruptive and teachers have to accept their inappropriate behavior because they are protected under IDEA (S. James, 2013). The disciplinary procedure is perplex between the two groups; some individual may think that it is fair for the two groups to received different action against them for their misbehaving in the classroom but Mrs. Davis think that disciplinary action is demanding when managing these two groups because it require the teachers to stay abreast of all of the individuality of the special need student so that instructional as well as behavioral problems maybe avoided by quick adjustments in the classroom. On the other hand, Ms. James felt that special needs students are not sent to the office quicker than regular education students. Teachers have to deal with their behavior and try different positive behavior techniques with them. Some students are not aware of disciplinary decisions and actions between both groups of students, special needs students do not realize that they can not be expelled from school. According to Osborne, the court did not leave school officials without recourse; it added that they could suspend students with disabilities for up to 10 days if they posed an immediate threat to the safety of others. Born out of a prior merger of Spainââ¬â¢s Aceralia, Franceââ¬â¢s Usinor, and Arbed of Luxembourg in 2002 (Reed, 2006), the acquisition by Mittal of Arcelor that was formed out of the preceding triumvirate is a further example of industry consolidation. The company, that consisted of in excess of 94,000 people in excess of 60 countries, was a major company in supplying the automotive, metal processing, construction, household appliance as well as general industry segments (wcbstv, 2006). But, that scenario seemingly looks like a thing of the long gone past, with Chinaââ¬â¢s appetite just getting started, and India beginning its sit at the steel table. Spot prices for ore are a prime contributor to the foregoing as prices have been on the increase since 2003: Chart 4 ââ¬â Iron Ore Spot Prices (DiCianni, 2007) The preceding trend is highly different from the one facing the steel industry during the mid and late 1990s when too much capacity was the problem and steel prices dropped (Denoel et al, 2002). 3.4 Laws The rules governing trade laws is overseen by the World Trade Organization that also oversees the varied treaties its member nations make (WTO, 2008a). The principle tactic and the one that is subject to attention in terms of laws has been anti-dumping policies utilised by Japan as well as Russia and recently China in the early 1980s and 1990s to gain a footing in supplying steel when prices were depressed as a means to enter and secure contracts (WTO, 2008b). Dumping represents the selling of steel in foreign markets below what is charged in home markets in order to secure a foothold, and or longer term supply contracts to keep factories running (Scheurman, 1986). Not surprisingly, disputes over imposition of dumping duties have been frequent. Exporting countries have often complained that, quite apart from the principle that dumping is bad, importing countries misuse their anti-dumping laws. The first code negotiated in the GATT to supplement the rules of the original GATT agreement was one that limited the use of anti-dumping measures. (3) New, more detailed agreements to limit national anti-dumping measures were included in both the Tokyo Round and Uruguay Round of trade negotiations. Meanwhile, use of anti-dumping measures had spread from the United States, European Union, and other industrialized countries to developing countries as well. (4) Thus, while international disagreements over dumping continue to pit some industrialized countries against Japan and many developing countries, the lines are not as clearly drawn as they were twenty years ago.â⬠The fray over anti-dumping continues to dominate the steel sector, but the recent surge in demand is lessening such occurrences and companies scramble to ramp up production and meet increasing demand. This has been a significant tactic used in the market that could very well continue after the shakeout over which companies dominate in China as well as India settles in. 3.5 Monopolies Steel represents an important component in the health of national economies by virtue of the broad range of industries it supplies. Automotive, construction, appliances, equipment, industries machinery, pipes, plumbing and a host of other areas that underpin production are all industries that need steel. Thus, monopolies simply are not a term that applies in this sector as a result of inten se global competition and national interests. In steel, bigger is better! Better for the steel company, national interests, domestic market supplies, and in terms of strength against their rivals. The two protagonists of the novels, Janie and Arvay, come realize the significance of personal enjoyment of life for oneââ¬â¢s self, and how such an awareness causes you to be surrounded you with people who love you for your own happiness. In both novels Hurston uses literal and figurative imagery of the sea as a symbol for this self-affirmation.
